i dont have a roll up so im not sure
but could you roll it up first a bit and than open your gate?
i have a tonneau with a handle but i want to shave it and put poppers on it
you could always cut a hole in the box and crawl underneath your vehicle and open it?
jk

if you wann do it right,
replce the shocks on the cover with linear actuators, and just mount a switch in the truck, it'll be totally secure and easy to access.
