IAT sensor relocation

Relocating your "intake air temp" sensor (IAT sensor) will help in the performance aspect of your Dakota. This is a very cheap modification to do. Total cost is going to be one 1/4" NPT plug, some Teflon tape and some wire.

Your IAT sensor measures the temp of the incoming air into the manifold runner and adjusts the air/fuel mixture accordingly. By relocating the IAT off of the hot engine and to some place cooler on the air intake system it will enrich the air/fuel mixture and give better performance out of your magnum engine.

This is the IAT sensor: On the 3.9 and 5.9 it is located on the passenger side of the engine.

Unscrew it from the manifold and then wrap your 1/4" NPT pipe thread plug with a few wraps of Teflon tape and screw it into the hole to reseal it. My truck has a CAI ( cold air intake) but this mod can also be done to a Dakota with a stock airbox as well. The airbox will just have to be drilled and tapped for a 1/4" NPT thread. You will probably need to extend the wires for a stock airbox application as well.

Pic of my relocated IAT sensor on the CAI tube.

I'll get a pic posted up of where the IAT is located on my 4.7 4x4 and post it up here.

5.2 should be the same as the 3.9 and 5.9. Passenger side on the first intake runner.

OK, finally got off my ass and took a pic of the IAT on my 4.7 4x4 Dakota. It's located on the 3rd intake runner back from the rad on the driver's side. Can't miss it because much the same as the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9, it has a brass fitting.
