Question First Gen Grill Ideas?

They obviously do not sell aftermarket grills for the first gen Dakota's. I need suggestions for what I should start with, I searched the forum and all I saw was someone cut down a nissan hardbody. Maybe if not completely straight something with a very mild peak in the middle like the hood does, I think? Here is something I would like to do, its even the exact color I want mine! However I'm thinking about a complete phantom over the lights. Mine is an 88' so possibly cut an S10 or S15?

that would look sweet, might have trouble getting the grille to go over the headlight chrome bezel things, unless you remove them.

That's what I was thinking.

I planned on either removing them or actually, the S10 phantom kits side turn signals are pretty close, just straighter and the Dakota has an odd rounded style. So I could always use some fiberglass and bondo on the quarter panels to make it work, I would have to check the width and height dimensions first.

ding ding ding!!

What do we have for him johnny?

Dragn is right on the button... I love the idea (planning the same thing myself, but a little differently than you) make fillers, and weld them in to mount the lights. As far as the older chevy grille... Look at the 78ish chevy gmc grilles... That will probably do it for you.

I thought the fiberglass strips that you layer and let harden would be easier since it's not holding any weight but I will probably just weld in metal panels.

I have two ways I could do it, without side markers and then buy the oversized Blazer/Silverado grill then cut it down. OR I could use the S10 grill which appears to have side markers already built into the grill frame.

be careful with the smaller trucks like the S10 grilles the older ones were so small...but then again so are the 1st gen daks...just make sure they're big enough is all.

A bit off topic but, I went to a huge junkyard today, never seen a Dakota with whatever you call this piece of aluminum. It goes on the tail gate, makes it look a bit more like an 80s Silverado.
