Body/Paint or Performance?

Ok guys im needing some feedback. Im trying to figure out what to do first body work and paint or do all my performance upgrades/modds first. The motor and drive train is solid with no real issues. Im just looking to upgrade parts for more power. The body is all original and im really wanting a good clean truck with a rollpan, custom hood, billet grille, new lights, smaller mirrors, and fresh paint. I really want to do the body/paint first but would like some feedback from you guys to make sure im thinking clearly on this. All the performance stuff will be done with engine in the truck and I use fender mats so dont think I will have to worry about messing up the fresh paint. So what would you do if you were me?

Id say engine upgrades first.

body, as long as your truck runs fine and all you're looking for is to upgrade, id do the body first.
but like you said use fender mats when ever you'll be working in the engine bay.

Im leaning towards body/paint because all the parts needed for me to get it the way i want it before paint is $1200. Then the cost of paint, prime, clear, etc. So around $2500 and ill be done with exterior. Now for the performance upgrades were talking about $4000. Id much rather drive around in a badass looking truck that will turn heads and have people snapping pics going down the road then have twice the money in the truck and no one be able to tell anything is different.

Well before paint I will have to get the rollpan installed and welded up,tailgate replaced and shaved, holes on top of bed shaved, front bumper blasted and shaved, and get the 1970 ta hood scoop glassed onto hood. Then will have to do all the primer and sanding. After that if I cant get in a buddies paint booth to spray it then I will have to find someone to spray it for me. I have alot of work to do before im ready to paint but in the end it will all be worth it. By the 2nd week of june I should have most of the money for parts and will get them on order to start the build. Im starting to get very excited cause this is the first build in along time. Now that my youngest daughter is almost 4 were a little better financially and im able to start getting my toys back lol.

well good luck to you, i did paint and body on my truck, it looks decent, now i'm saving up for a economy car so i can sink all the money in the dak for performance, going old school with a LA block 318 swap.

With my journey, i started sanding it at the end of last summer, primed it quite a few times, i had so many runs, but i eventually messed up enough to finally get it right. finally had it painted by christmas. its a decent paint job, just a satin blue with mettallic flake, still needs a buff and polish. i turn heads at school, girls love the truck, maybe because its a long bed !

I see where your coming from but although its not heavily modified its not stock either. The problem im dealing with is the money for the build is not one lump sum. I will have roughly $1000 around the 1st to 2nd week of every month to put into the build. If I try to go performance first then its going to be another 3-6 months before I can actually get started on the paint/body and by that time it will be getting cold and my buddies shop will be full with the boat and the 68 camaro that is parked at the lift. So I will not have access to an indoor facility to do the body work. With things planned out the way they are now the body/paint will be complete by atleast October and ill start the motor build and it will finish up probably February and the truck will be ready to go by next spring. Ill just have to do all the interior work then.
