How to remove the steering column?

Here I am again asking for more help ahah. I've got a 97' 3.9 mag, my steering wheel has had a fair bit of play for a little while now and I finally decided to try and figure out what it is. The U-joints in the steering column are pretty much completely shot, I'm just wondering if anyone can give me detailed directions on how to remove the column and replace the worn U-joints? Or send me a link that would inform me of everything I'd need to know. Thanks again!

if its just the lower intermidiate joints then its easy if ur talking the internal joints u will not find any replacement part for that


remove the knee bolster (plastic piece by ur knees) disconnect the all the connectors from the column (NOTE disconnect the batter for 30min prior to pulling the yellow connector off or it'll be face full of airbag)
if auto remove the tiny copper string coming from the PRNDL locator in the cluster.
-pop the linkage off the bottom of colum(engine side) this is for column shift
-remove the 4bolts on the firewall side. then unbolt the lower intermediate ujoint at the slip portion or rack n pinion.

remove the two nuts from the colum to dash. drop the column and pull it into cab boom done

I'm not sure what the difference is between the intermediate joints, and the internal ones are? They look just like the U-joints on the drive shaft.. think there is two of them.

the intermid ones are the ones ur lookin at

internals are the one that allows a column to tilt..they are not easy to find and make sure u order the right ones cuz they changed rack spline count a few times...remember this is a dealer or maybe ebay item only

So the intermediate are they something I'd be able to pick up at a parts store pretty easily? any idea at what cost I'd probably be looking at?

no the lower ujoint shaft has two u-joints and a slip joint..this is DEALER only..if ur lucky u'll find it on ebay for like $40-$120

parts stores will not carry this, it sucks i had to deal with it a few months back

yeah im gonna have to look around at ebay.. the dealerships wants 457 bucks for the intermediate shaft, thats rediculous! sigh
