I was curious about two things. If you use the correct angled reamer on '96 back spindles, can the gen 3 balljoints bolt to the gen 2 spindles? Longshot question, I'm sure.

if you reamed then out im sure it would work...but your lower balljoint would have to get fliped which i would not trust cuz the OE balljoints that you have are not made to hold the load, they are tension style. (more of a pull on the socket rather than a push)
tie rods are almost the same to begin with, good chance the track width would get narrowers due to the hub asm being closer to the spindle. but would not be off by much. there are currently NO brake upgrades for any eary gen truck (a member has been tying to change this)
im sure you already know that you'd have to compromise ABS and ride height due to the early gen spindles not being the same height. hope that heklped a lil but hey anything is possible on these trucks just gota be willing to fab it up
