They started it way back when... I think it was during WW2, to save energy. People use less energy during the day because less lights are on when you sync the normal hours of the day up with the natural pattern of the sun. It doesnt sound like much but over a whole country it makes a difference.

I personally like daylight savings time, I wish we ran on the fast time all year, gives more daylight in the afternoon after you get off work.

generally I agree with daylight savings time... the further north you go it makes a difference... during the summer the sun tends to come up between 6 and 7 around here, and sets between 8 and 9 with daylight savings... and during the longest days it is getting light around 6:15 and sets around 9:30...

on the 'normal' standard clock, the sun would be up between 5 and 6, sometimes as early as 5:15... which is really kind of early, and that hour at the end of the evening of light is really much more usable...

leaving it on savings time thru the winter though would mean the sun would rise something like 9:45 here, which of course is way too late...

that all said, this is far too early in the year to make the change... this has been a much snowier winter than recent years, but the fact is in these temperatures and with this much snow, people do not use the daylight hours outside... and waking up in darkness means you use as much energy as ever because it's too dark still at this time of year to get showered and dressed etc...
