98 to 01-04 dash swap

well. i picked up a dash yesterday. looked extremely clean, no cracks or anything, just a little dirty. pulled my dash out today and i just finished mount the 01 dash in. everything fits pretty nice. but i still have to finish the bottom bracket and get all my wires ran again. only problem i ran into is the steering wheel looks a little funky but i will have a new one in within the day. and the air vents dont match. but i plan on running the flexible tubing that they use for air cleaners to get everything to work. still have to do some wiring things and whatnot but i have the bulk of the work finished. i will take some pictures of it when i get up in the morning.

nope, the 98 door panels actually fit. i have the 01 panels though, just working on glassing some speaker pods.

here are some pictures, but please be gentle with all the mess i have in it right now haha. still mocking everything up. everything is pretty much a direct bolt up. but the newer model dash has another mount on the side of the dash that goes into the door jam. so ill be drilling out some holes and threading them. also, on the bottom the bolt holes dont line up so its the same for them. right now im having a little issue with the passenger side that looks a little funky. but once i get it to my dads shop and get his input, we should have it looking factory or extremely close to it. i still have to get the new steering wheel, but im more worried with getting all my wires ran and it bolting up correctly. i will have to take the dash out yet again. so i will get some pictures of how it bolts up and what all you have to do to get everything to work properly

yea, it was a pretty easy swap to be honest. but the door panels on the 01+ are to short. but i dont know if its because its an extended cab. but im going to try to find a reg cab and see if the panels are the same length, but if they are still short. ill just start glassing the 98 panels. it doesnt hit the side of the dash or anything. so it seems like it will work either way.i should also be getting some more pictures of the whole process, because i have to finish running some wires and what not. so stay tuned

regular cab and club cab have different doors so the ones from a RC should fit.

How did your 98 gauge cluster fit in the new dash? And what did you do for the HVAC knobs? Are you going to try and wire in the newer style headlight switch or make the 98 switch fit?

see, as you can tell, im new to the dakota thing ha. the cluster thats in it now is actually the one out of the 01. but if somebody was to do the swap. both clusters are the same size. the connectors that go to the back of it are the same also. dont know if the BCM needs to be changed or not, but i will find out. i plan on using all the parts off the donar truck,so i still have to finish wiring the new controls, same thing goes with the headlight switch and what not.ill will be taking alot more pictures seeing how ive noticed alot of people are wondering if it worked. and i believe pictures will make it that much easier for others.
