removing 4x4

i been thinking about removing my 4x4 to lower my ride, is this possible? how hard would it be? maybe just remove the entire 4x4? or just the axles for the 4x4. im not trying to take a chance of buying another 2wd dakota and its in worse condition then my truck. i like everything about my truck besides the ride height!

id image the easy and cheap way is to remove the front drive shaft.
but proper way would be to remove transfer case and replace with 2wd components but

Its not as easy as it sounds. The frames are different from 4wd to 2wd.Hers a few things that are different:control arm mounts, crossmember for torsion bars, place for front diff to mount ,and im sure the trans crossmembers are differnt, also i garuntee theres no spring pocket.

The entire front suspension is different, not to mention crossmembers, transmission, and parts of the frame

It's not worth the effort in all honesty

Remove the front driveshaft, differential and front axles with the CV joints. POOF! A 2wd Dakota. Not sure on how low you could go after that because your dealing with torsion bars and not coil springs. You'd probably have to get a set of custom torsion bar keys made, modify the existing ones or fabricate something on the cross frame member at the ends of the torsion bars to lower it any considerable amount though. It could be done.

For the rear you'd have to flip the axle from underneath to over top of the springs. That would involve welding on new spring perches if you used your existing rear end or a simple swap if you were to buy a 2wd rear end.

Hell man! If it's a 4x4 why don't you lift that bitch with a body lift and stick on a set of 33's. I don't ride low all year round. This is my other ride.
