performance debate

alright guys...here's a guestion to pose. I just put in a reman in my 97 last summer. I have the block left over and am now planning on what to do with it. Is there more power to dollar efficiency in stroking my block and blowing it out. Or forgetting about it and save for a 5.9L to swap when I get out of school? College itself is pretty spendy and I don't have the money quite yet. plus the money I do have is already going to baggin it!

So rebuild and beef up my old 4.0 or get rid of it and buy a 5.9?

Personaly, I would save up and get a crate 5.9. there's a guy around the sites that has a supercharged v6 with other goodies and is still not putting down the numbers that a mild 5.9 would!

In the end, its going to be up to you, but I would def save up and go big the first time around. Thats what were doing with my '98, saving up, doing a stroker and a 4-link rear....why not!

sorry...3.9L.

I don't know if I will blow a 5.9...at least not at first but a crate with mild mods wouldn't be bad. What'ya think about rebuilding one out of a wrecking yard versus crate? I know when I originally looked at that option for my 3.9 it wasn't much more to buy the reman.

I personally say save up for a 5.9. If your as impatient as me I would get one from a yard and slowly build it while you in school

Or you could do a 4.7L....I just happen to know some one that has one for a good price. Low miles, and trans available along with wires.

Building it yourself is always awesome, becuase then you know every part of that motor if something goes bad down the road. But by the time you get the machine work done and start getting parts, its SOMETIMES about the same price to buy a crate.

The only reason we are building our stroker is because we have a buddy that owns the machine shop, and from KRC the parts for the bottom end are right around 2500..

Just REALLY look into all your options, but I def would go up to the V8, theres more info on them and alot more people can help you with it. There's just not many 'built' 3.9's out there..

Thanks for the help. I will probably let my 3.9 block go and save up for the 5.9L

I haven't really considered selling it..but I gave 500 to keep it as a core, so I would guess around there. I would be more interested in trading it, I am looking for a hood and or body kit for a gen III reg cab.
