radio in 05 dakota

ok so my buddy hooking up an aftermarket radio in his 05 dakota today and the only way to get it to come on with a standard harness was to combine the power and 12volt memory wire from the radio to the ones on the harness plus splice into the cigarette lighter. but everytime he cuts the truck off it loses memory. can anyone tell me what to do to fix his problem

I would suggest running 12 volt memory wire direct to battery +.

You need a special CAN adapter to connect an aftermarket stereo since your truck has a CANBUS control system.

This is noted. I'm planning to get a replacement aftermarket radio soon.
