Has anyone else have problems with the 44re transmission getting hot and lose all gears until it cools off?
I am considering installing an external transmission oil cooler but they have without or with bypass. Does anyone know which one I need? The truck has a 5.2 v8 magnum and is 4 wheel drive.

I would dump fluid and look for for excess metal..... if looks OK put in a new filter and fluid.
On the cooler, either should be fine.
Bypass cooler adds some safety in that if it's very cold, or other blockage it will bypass and not lose flow.
