Totally shaved mine. Used a GM Adapter to mount it in the hollow space inside the left fender.

Which adapter did you use? How was the reception afterwards? Better? worst?

sorry it took so long to get back to you. Actually it is not hooked up yet, I am waiting till this winter when we rework the stereo. just trying to get all the exterior mods done first. As far as adapters, I went to pep boys and bought an antenna kit for the base, and bought a billet antenna. pretty simple.
