The intakes for the 5.2 and 5.9 should work with your 3.9. As for Carb exempt, maybe Airaid or Volant. I don't think you have much to worry about. I passed smoke with a Quick D intake on my previous 97 Dak 3.9. And the wifes Honda passed with an intake. Just be nice to the tech.

Ok. Yeah my Accord passed but my intake was carb exempt and now it doesn't matter because I have the Dakota to drive in the winter and the car has a new engine :p

So you say that the intakes for the 5.9 will work on the V6 3.9? That just doesn't sound right. But I don't know much about american trucks.

The 3.9 is basically a 5.2 with 2 cylinders lopped off. It has the same airhat, so a 5.2 intake should work for a 3.9.

It does have the same airhat, but thats about it, if you want an intake, i recomend an airraid intake, i really dont like the volant design, and K&N dont make one for the v6 they do for the 4.7 5.2 and 5.9 so that there should tell you the v6 and v8 intakes are different, but i guess if you wanted to you could make anything work
