ok i bought a 96 dakota slt clubcab. great condition except for one thing

who ever had it cut the factory wiring harness for radio.

but my question is will a radio out of a gen 3 dakota work in the truck?

the reason i ask is i have a factory radio laying around and i picked up a wiring harness out of a gen 3 dakota so i could have the plugs.

but is the wiring of the 96 diffferant than the wiring of a 2000 dakota?

its not a bose system or nuthing fancy just plain ol tape deck. just want a radio to listen too. any help would be appreciated.

There should be a constant, a power a ground and all your speaker wires.
You could strip your wires down on your 96 and the wires on your gen 3 harness and due the process of elimination. Once you find power and ground fade the radio to the front left, front right, you get the idea. Just an idea if you cant get a hold of a wiring diagram. It can be wired wether the wire colors are the same or not. i not sure how the physical fit will be. Good luck
