i believe it is for the wiring for the lights that were optional.

I bought this a while back and I am just getting to it, this does not make sense why is there a vent hose in this? It's only on one side:

You can see the hose in the middle that connects to the top:

The hose dumps out the bottom would this have gone through the bed?

Coincidentally the hose side is the most rusted so I am not sure how to go about this, the metal has to be removed and it is held on by the sunk female taps...if I pull those out they may not go back in they are pressed any ideas?

I thought about cutting the meal strips out, but then I have no way of putting new ones on and mounting it to the bed side
