Shortened axle

Whats up guys? pretty informative site but i got a question i need help with....since everyone has mixed answers over this i want to see what you guys have to say...i'm bagging my truck this summer and i want to tuck 18's on a 1993 club cab dak w/ 3.9 and i was wondering: will the axle have to be shortened or can i run a front wheel drive type rim i've heard about? If i have to flair out the bed though, forget-- that i'll just get it shortened...anyways thanks for the help in advance..
